世界著名的英国焊接研究所(TWI)创建于1946年，为提供工程领域的焊接结构和相关技术（如表面的、涂层的、切割等）的解决方案。由于该所为一个非赢利单位，受其会员和担保人的限制，因此能够提供独立的建议和方案。

目前该所拥有450多个技术熟练的雇员，献身于工业所有的焊接技术行业。这些行业实际代表了制造工业的所有的行业的大约有3200家企业和组织，在全球60个不同的国家受益于TWI。TWI还承担着工业和政府的研究和发展工作，作为政府的顾问，它能够提供特别的专家或队伍来帮助解决所有的相关的材料焊接问题。

在今年4月份，TWI在中国成立了北京北京办事处，以便更方便、有效的服务于中国的企业与组织。
