The NanoString technology was invented at the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in the lab of Dr. Leroy Hood in 2000. The company was spun out of the ISB in 2003 when the technology was exclusively licensed to NanoString Technologies, who developed the nCounter Analysis System. NanoString has been selling the the nCounter Analysis System internationally since 2008. NanoString is a privately held venture-backed company with offices in Seattle, WA and San Mateo, CA.
NanoString Technologies is a privately-held life sciences company marketing a complete solution for detecting and counting large sets of target molecules. Due to its multiplexing ability and ease of use, NanoString’s solution enables researchers to embark on studies that were previously inconceivable. The company’s digital target profiling technology enables a wide variety of basic research and translational medicine applications, including biomarker discovery and validation.
