About GeneBio
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GeneBio was established in 1997 by three eminent scientists, Ron Appel, Amos Bairoch and Denis Hochstrasser, in parallel with the establishment of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB). GeneBio's commercial endeavors debuted in 1998 as we began to give commercial access via license to the Swiss-Prot database.
Since our inception, we have evolved from an initial and continuing mandate to commercialize databases and other products developed by the SIB into a truly global multifaceted bioinformatics company offering a spectrum of original solutions.
GeneBio's headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2005 GeneBio opened a Japanese branch located in Tokyo, Japan.
Our Industry
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Life Sciences have been continuously revolutionized both in the rate of data accumulation and in the diversity of the biological information being generated through a multitude of technologies. This industry has dramatically changed over the last 20 years; we are now more in a "knowledge-limited" rather than "information-limited" era. The industry is now confronted with the ever-growing problem of transforming these masses of heterogeneous information into integrated and structured knowledge.
To overcome this information bottleneck, we must concentrate on putting together the right information and tools in a contextualized manner in order to allow research scientists to easily corroborate those separate pieces of information, and thus to generate pertinent biological knowledge. At GeneBio we face this task head-on by producing software platforms that allow users to sift through reams of data, process it, compare it, and cross reference it, in order to give the data structure and meaning.
We focus our expertise on Mass Spectrometry characterization of proteins and small molecules as well as proteome imaging, offering clients and partners a high degree of specialization essential to their research. Close ties to academic peers and a thorough network of distribution and strategic partners give us both unfettered access to scientific excellence and recognized market presence so that we may best serve the scientific community.
