Apart from the classic material and functional properties (e. g. tensile strength, bursting behaviour, bending strength), the testing of paper was limited so far to the determination of material characteristics on large surfaces. Details concerning fiber break, the structure of the paper in z-direction or qualities of hydrogen bonding could only be gained summarily without local resolution.

 The following survey describes a new way of testing and evaluating paper with a high local and dynamic resolution. Thus, it is possible to correlate the functionality of the paper with its microstructure. Of course, the field in which the paper shall be used later on is a basis when evaluating and testing its properties.
