Description

Ghrelin is the ligand for growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1 (GHSR). Ghrelin induces the release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. Ghrelin precursor is cleaved in 3 chains: Ghrelin-27, Ghrelin-28 and Obestatin. Ghrelin-28 is modified with an O-octanoylation group on the N-terminal end essential for activity. Obestatin is an endogenous ligand for the orphan G protein-coupled receptor GPR39 and is involved in satiety and decreased food intake.
